Fwd: Board Nominations for 2019 season

Aloha!
Just a reminder – Board Nominations are due Monday, 11/26. Email nominations to teamazoutrigger@gmail.com.
We are currently taking nominations for board members and committee chairs for 2019. You can either self-nominate or nominate someone else (just check with them first to make sure they are interested).  
Voting will be done 1 of 2 ways:
  • Paper ballots will be available at the lake from December 1 – 8 and at the Holiday party, December 9th
  • If you can not complete a paper ballot or will not be at the party, you may email your vote to Merrily Pychinka  – mpychinka@msn.com by Saturday, December 8th
Results will be announced at the Holiday Party on Sunday, December 9th.

Board Positions

President

The President shall be
the principal executive officer of TAZ OCC, and shall, in general, supervise
and call all meetings of the members. The President shall act and speak on behalf
of TAZ OCC and shall be responsible for general administration. This position can only be held by someone that has been on the board the previous year. 

Additional Duties
include:

  • Equipment – ensuring team
    canoes, trailer and dollies are being maintained and kept in good
    condition
  • Hawaiian Culture – ensuring the
    club follows traditions, such as pules, chants, and canoe blessings
  • Elections – oversees annual
    board elections

 

Vice President

In the absence of the
President, or in the event of his or her inability or refusal to act, the
Vice-President shall perform the duties of the President, and when so acting
shall have all powers of the President and shall perform such other duties as
from time to time be assigned by the President.

Additional Duties
include:

  • Team Gear – oversees team
    jersey orders, banners, and logo wear
  • Aloha Festival – in charge of
    managing our team tent, signing up volunteers, raffle tickets, works with
    Aloha Festival committee as needed

 

Treasurer

The Treasurer shall have
charge and custody of and be responsible for all funds and securities of TAZ
 OCC; receive and give
receipt for money due and payable to TAZ OCC from any source whatsoever, and 
deposit all such money
in the name of TAZ OCC from any source whatsoever. The treasurer shall 
maintain accurate and
detailed records and shall report at every meeting of the Officers all
transactions 
regarding finance and
the overall financial status of TAZ OCC; and in general, perform all the duties
of 
the office of Treasurer.

Additional Duties
include:

  • Fundraising – member of
    fundraising committee, acts as Chair when one is not in place.
  • Gifts and Awards – oversees
    annual team holiday gift and awards

 

Secretary

The Secretary shall be
custodian of the records and reports, including these ByLaws, current relevant
race rules, results of all races and reports of Officers and committees of TAZ
OCC. The Secretary shall keep the minutes of the meetings of the Officers; and
in general, perform all the duties of the office of Secretary.

Additional Duties include:

  • Race Coordination – works with
    Head Coach to register crews for races, coordinates schedule of events
    (canoe loading/unloading, race day agenda)
  • City of Tempe Activities &
    Events – follows City of Tempe to stay on top of upcoming activities, like
    races or festivals, happening on and around the lake that may affect
    practice schedules.

 

Member at Large

The Member at Large
serves as the liaison between the membership and the Board; attends Board
meetings and provides the Board with feedback members may have.

Additional Duties
include:

  • Ironman – coordinates with half
    & full Ironman captains that members are volunteering and up to date
    on event schedules
  • New Member Coordination –
    Welcomes new members as they join TAZ, works with SCORA rep to ensure
    waivers are being completed and member information is being recorded on
    spreadsheet

 

SCORA Rep

The SCORA Rep shall keep
all the records of waivers of current members, including applications and
signed releases. The SCORA Rep shall notify all members in regards to SCORA
meetings and practices.  The SCORA Rep will also attend all meeting with
SCORA.

Additional Duties
include:

  • Safety – makes sure we have
    complete first aid kits, PFD’s, signed waivers, and incident reports. If
    an accident happens during practice, SCORA rep will ensure an incident
    report is completed and recorded.
  • Community Outreach – organizes
    charity outreach for team to participate in

 

Head Coach

The Head Coach shall
have complete authority over such matters as practice, schedules, training
program, selection of crews and teams and use of the existing equipment. The
Head Coach may discipline a crew or team member for any act he/she considers a
violation of his/her rules; and in general, perform all duties of the Office of
Head Coach. The Head Coach will also attend all meetings with SCORA.

Additional Duties
include:

  • Pre-practice conditioning –
    will set out of canoe training, such as pre-practice stretching
  • Key Management – maintains team
    keys and locks for boatyard and storage lockers
